Image Research: Mining & Industry

Cranes
For me there is something quite aesthetic about the framework of cranes. I love the way light interacts with the triangular framework. Light passing through the framework can look particularly effective. Perhaps we should include a crane or two in our short film so as to give the impression of a mining facility under construction.

Power Plants
Sea Forts
These sea-forts above are truly amazing, they look like they should belong from the film Waterworld. These are truly impressive structures that make the water levels seem shallow.

Oil Rigs
The shape of the oil rig above is rather interesting and is enhanced by the low angle of the sun.

There is something quite beautiful about a silhouetted oil rig against a sunset sky. All that is visible is the shape that is created by girders, networks of framework and piping.

The picture of the oil rig structures above are really impressive. I love the way their structure and design seems so random. Their industrial appearance is a strong contrast to their surroundings. Their many levels and clumps of tangled piping are incredible and inform the viewer of their vast size.

Mining Tunnels
The photograph above is really nice as it has a simple yet effective composition and informs the viewer of the steamy atmosphere of an industrial mine interior.

I love the lighting and mood in the photograph above.

Marble Quarry
I love these marble quarries, particularly how the sunlight interacts with the hard edges of the excavated rock.

Mining Conveyor Systems
Tiered Surface Mine (Diamond & Copper)
These surface mines are really impressive. The scale of these excavations is just mind blowing. The roads which navigate around the excavation create an interesting tired pattern and make it look quite beautiful in a weird way. We could include a surface mining excavation in our own animated environment project.

Strip Mine
I was amazed when I found this image on the internet. It looks so random in its structure and design. I also discovered by doing a little research online that these strip mining contraptions can be vast in scale.

Gas Pipeline
The pipelines above caught my eye. They extends over a large area and zig zag and snake around obstacles in the landscape. We could include this within our short film.

Nodding Donkey Oil Pump

I really like the shape of the Oil Pumps above. They are really the essence of industrial mining. Their shape is unusually yet in a weird way quite aesthetic, particularly when they are a black silhouette in contrast to a setting sun.
