Image Research: Environment Conditions Desert, Sand & Rock

Here are various images found on the internet of Desert Landscapes.

Sand Storm
Sand Dunes
I love the ripple texture effect of the sand dunes above. It is almost as if the sand itself consists of water. There is something quite beautiful in the images above.

I love the way the sand dunes above are lit by the Sun. The contrast between the colour of the sand and the dark shadows really emphasise their form. It is interesting to note that looking at images like this provide no sense of scale. You really have no idea how big these dunes are.

Rock & Canyons
The rock formations above are truly amazing. This is something we could include in the final design. I just love these jagged tower formations. It looks like something out of a science fiction film. The formations look too bizarre to be real. Formations like this could look really interesting if lit correctly in an effective way in a 3D program such as Maya.

I found this particular formation eye catching. It seems too regular and cube like to be a natural rock formation. This could be a great idea for the mine facility to be set in.

I love these plateau structures. These rocks seem to rise out of the landscape like vast natural jetties.

I love these tower formations. What impresses me is that these structures are huge and the red rock is lit so perfectly by the setting sun.

Mountains
All these images of desert landscapes caught my eye. I wanted to gather as much research as possible so that the rest of the group as well as myself could decide what kind of desert landscape design should feature within the final short film. We need to decide whether it is a rocky desert or a sandy desert. I want the desert environment to consist of warm colours, mainly reds, yellows, browns, oranges etc. I want the landscape to be impressive and vast so as to include some sense of scale. I have a clear idea that the mine facility is huge yet tiny in comparison to the landscape surrounding it.
